The Brownsberg Nature Park Waterfall Adventure offers an unforgettable journey into one of Suriname’s most biodiverse rainforest areas. Located about 100 kilometers south of Paramaribo, Brownsberg rises above the surrounding landscape and provides spectacular views of the Brokopondo Reservoir and the surrounding tropical rainforest.

The area was officially designated as Brownsberg Nature Park in 1975 and is one of the most studied natural areas in Suriname due to its remarkable biodiversity. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife and plant species, including monkeys, sloths, agoutis, colorful morpho butterflies, and numerous tropical birds and amphibians.

Traveling to Brownsberg takes visitors along the Afobakka Road, passing villages and historical sites that reflect Suriname’s interior development and transmigration history. From the village of Brownsweg, the journey continues along the Agwago Kununu Pasie (AKP), a laterite mountain road that climbs toward the Brownsberg plateau.

Once inside the nature park, several hiking trails lead through dense rainforest to breathtaking viewpoints and beautiful waterfalls. Depending on the group and conditions, the hike will lead to either Leo Falls and the Mazaroni Top or the impressive Irene Falls. Along the way, the guide will share insights about the rainforest ecosystem, its wildlife, and the importance of conservation.

Upon reaching the waterfall, guests have time to relax, enjoy the surrounding rainforest, and take a refreshing swim before hiking back to the plateau. This tour combines adventure, nature, and wildlife observation, offering an immersive experience in Suriname’s tropical rainforest.
