2 Days
About 100 km from Paramaribo lies Brownsberg, a forested mountain overlooking the Brokopondo Reservoir. The mountain can be reached by traveling along the Afobakkaweg, passing Brownsweg village, and climbing the Agwago Kununu Pasie (AKP) road to the plateau. Since 1975 this area has been protected as Brownsberg Nature Park.
Brownsberg is one of the most studied natural environments in Suriname due to its exceptional biodiversity. The park is home to many species of animals including monkeys, sloths, agoutis, colorful butterflies, frogs, and birds. Several hiking trails lead through dense tropical rainforest to scenic viewpoints and impressive waterfalls such as Leo Falls, Irene Falls, and Mazaroni Falls.
During this two-day excursion guests explore the rainforest on guided hikes while learning about the flora, fauna, and history of the area. Visitors have the opportunity to swim at the waterfalls and enjoy panoramic views over the Brokopondo Reservoir. Spending the night on the Brownsberg plateau offers a unique chance to experience the peaceful atmosphere of the rainforest before returning to Paramaribo the following day.
